Dental Implants

Dental implant 1Dental implants are "artificial tooth roots" upon which implant-supported restorations (removable or permanently fixed) are placed. The implant (artificial root) becomes the foundation on which your restoration will be built. A dental implant is placed right into your jaw bone and is designed to support a replacement tooth or bridge. Advances in implant design, techniques and technology make it possible for most people to be suitable candidates for implants. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more conservative (tooth-saving) than traditional bridgework as implants do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support, and therefore do not touch adjacent teeth.  Dental implants are so natural in appearance, sensation and functioning that you may forget you ever lost a tooth.

Dental Implant 2 AfterDental Implant 2 BeforeThere are three major types of dental implants... conventional, immediate and computer guided. The conventional implant process can take from three to nine months to complete and is characterized by the surgical placement of the implant followed by a three to six month healing period and finally the placement of the restoration.

Immediate implants are "immediately loaded" meaning that at the time of placement, the implant has enough stability to allow us to immediately construct the final restoration for placement and insertion within 2-3 weeks. This is a highly successful, timely, convenient, more efficient and way to place dental implants.

Computer guided implants depend on guided surgical techniques which allow the placement of  dental implants in a single session using "keyhole surgery". The major advantage of the guided surgical technique is the minimal amount of manipulation of the soft tissue due to keyhole surgery. This, in turn, significantly reduces the healing time as compared to traditional dental implant surgical techniques.
