Orthodontics
Orthodontic and Orthopedic treatments change the positioning of your teeth, and in so doing, improves the appearance of your smile, the functioning of your jaws, and your overall dental health. These treatments may also enhance your facial appearance, such as the fullness of your lips or the position of your jawline.
Orthodontic treatment consists of two phases of treatment: the active orthodontic phase and the retention orthodontic phase. The active orthodontic phase involves the use of braces, bands, wires and such to move the teeth into their new position. The retention orthodontic phase involves the use of a dental retainer to keep the teeth in their new position.
There are a variety of reasons that people seek orthodontic treatment. The reasons include crooked teeth, crowded teeth, spaced teeth, an overbite, underbite or an openbite. It may also be because of extra or missing teeth an incorrect jaw position or jaw-joint disorders.
The are a variety of treatment options and materials that can be used depending on condition or conditions. In the orthodontic phase, ceramic braces or invisible braces such as Invisalign can be used in lieu of bands or wires. Retainer like appliances, incorporating metal, clear acrylic or a combination of the two, can also be used.
When expediency is required, patients have the option of repairing their teeth with “Instant Orthodontics”. This cosmetic procedure can straighten teeth through the application of veneers and tooth contouring in just 1-2 visits.
If the position of the teeth are affecting the bite and subsequently the jawline, then Neuromuscular Dentistry may be required. This is considered an Orthodontic treatment and involves the musculoskeletal system, primarily the face, jaws, neck and upper back. It involves the adjustment of the person’s “bite” to improve appearance and help relieve symptoms such as headaches, neck or back pain.
