"Instant Orthodontics"
Straighter Teeth in 1-2 visits
Instead of wearing braces for 2-3 years, a viable option is to choose to reshape uneven teeth using ceramics such as custom-made porcelain veneers and/or porcelain crowns. This is sometimes referred to as "instant orthodontics". The procedure uses porcelain veneers or laminates, instead of braces, to cosmetically correct the alignment and appearance of the involved teeth. This can be done in a couple of appointments, about 10 days apart!!
What types of problems do dental veneers fix?
Veneers are routinely used to fix teeth that are:
- discoloured because of root canal treatment
- stained from tetracycline (or other drugs), excessive fluoride or the presence of resin fillings that have discoloured or stained over time
- worn down
- chipped or broken
- misaligned or crooked
- uneven
- rotated
- irregularly shaped (eg. have bulges in them) or have gaps between them

What's the procedure for getting a dental porcelain veneer?
The procedure usually requires two visits – the first for preparation of the tooth (or teeth) surface, and the second for the application of the custom-made veneers. The procedure itself involves a few steps. These are: diagnosis and treatment planning, preparation, and bonding. It is important to note that one tooth or many teeth can simultaneously undergo the veneering process described.
Diagnosis and treatment planning is the first step and involves active participation between you, Dr. Singh and your treatment coordinator to design the smile that is ideal for you!
Preparation. To prepare a tooth for a veneer, Dr. Singh will remove about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface. Next a restorative hygienist will make a model or impression of your tooth. This model is sent out to a dental laboratory, where your veneer will be fabricated. You will have temporary veneers placed while you wait for the artistic creation of your permanent, custom-made ones. It usually takes about 10 days for your veneers to be crafted. We are proud to say that the lab that we utilize has received advanced training and certification from the Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Studies in Dentistry (or LVI).
Bonding. To prepare your tooth to receive the veneer, your tooth will be thoroughly cleaned and prepared to allow for a strong bond. Special bonding agents are applied to the veneer and then it is bonded on your tooth. The final steps involve removing any excess cement, polishing and making any final minute adjustments as necessary.
Do dental veneers require any special treatment or care?
No. Good oral home-care practices including brushing and flossing regularly, and our regular check-ups and professional preventative care will keep your new smile healthy and shiny for years to come!
