What is orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment
changes the positioning of your teeth, and in so doing, improves the appearance and functioning of your teeth, as well as your overall dental health. It may also enhance your facial appearance and how your jaw muscles and joints function.
Using braces, retainers or other devices to apply gentle pressure over a period of months or years, can move your teeth to a more favourable position. Some problems that are suitable for treatment by orthodontics may be developmental, such as those caused by the early loss or prolonged retention of baby teeth or by differences between upper and lower jaw growth.
Orthodontic problems may also be caused by accidents or behaviour, such as finger or thumb-sucking, and/or tongue-thrusting. Depending on the severity of your problems and the treatment prescribed, you may experience some initial discomfort when the braces are first applied or as the braces are adjusted.
We can move teeth utilizing traditional brackets and braces or, if appropriate, utilizing Invisalign technology.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign takes a different approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you simply wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements we plan for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You simply pop in a new set of aligners approximately once every two weeks, until your treatment is complete and you achieve the desired results and you have the confident smile that you've always wanted. The best part about the whole process is that most people won't even know that you're straightening your teeth as the trays are unnoticable.
